The purpose of the Hospital is to offer care and treatment to patients under the care of their GP, in order to:  Avoid the neccessity for admission to expensive care in an acute hospital; or  To provide facilities for rehabilitation or further recovery following episodes of acute care in an NHS hospital.

Procedure for direct admission by the patient's GP When a patient for admission has been identified, the following procedure should be followed: The GP will telephone the hospital and ask to speak with the nurse in charge. The nurse in charge will ask for the information required to complete the hospital's admissions checklist. Based on the information provided, the nurse in charge will determine if a suitable bed is available. Provided this is the case, the admission will be agreed.

Transfer of patients from acute hospitals The only restrictions on transfers relate to the availability of appropriate facilities for the care of such patients. A proposal to transfer a patient registered with one of the six GP practices with admitting rights to the hospital can be arranged by telephoning the Nurse in Charge at Tarporley. The Hospital is also happy to accept patients not on the list of any of the Practices attached to the Hospital. In such cases, the transferring hospital (or the patient's GP) should secure the agreement of one of the GP's attached to Tarporley Hospital to undertake the care of the patient. The following is general but not exhaustive guidance on the suitablility of patients for transfer. The hospital is prevented by the terms of its registration from accepting patients in the following specialities: Mental Health Obstetrics Paediatrics The hospital is not staffed or equipped to deal with the following types of patients: Disturbed or aggressive patients requiring supervision Those requiring blood transfusions Those requiring specialised equipment not available at the hospital Excessively heavy patients Patients who have little prospect of being discharged to their homes, and for whom no arrangements for care in a residential or nursing home has been made. The hospital is not a nursing home and does not accept long stay patients or permanent residents. Patients appropriate for transfer are those requiring a period of rehabilitation or recovery prior to their final discharge. Patients in an acute hospital who are merely waiting for a placement in a residential or nursing home could exceptionally be accepted but only where such placement is already arranged and a definite date agreed.
